July Meeting, 7/26/15 Howland Library Beacon

Please join us for the July meeting of the HVMQG/

Hexagons, Diamonds and Triangles – and Quilts!

Pat Yamin has collected quilts from the 1880’s to the present - quilts with fascinating patterns using hexagons, diamonds and triangles. According to Pat these geometric patterns capture her attention and inspire her to buy and make more of them each year. From the simplicity of the design to the more detailed pattern, the fabric and piecing turn them into true works of art. Be sure to bring paper, pencil and a camera to this entertaining lecture - you will leave inspired to create your own geometric quilt!

May meeting

At our May meeting, after our great Fabric De-stash, our member showed off their completed projects for the "Paint Chip Mini Challenge".

We had two color combos: greens/orange and blues/purples.

Shelley made a mini to honor Title IX.  So creative!

Erin referenced plan architecture in her mini.

Katy played with reverse applique and hand stitching in her mini...and the all-seeing eye.

This was interesting.  Two members chose the same block with different sizes and layout.

Denise's tumbling blocks. Look at that quilting!

Jackie hand-painted her submission!

Julee's mini included faux fur fabric!

What a group of minis!!  We love what you all did!

March Meeting

Many of our members are working on IG mini-swaps.

Our March meeting was lot fun with tons of great info shared from our members who went to Quilt Con and took classes.  We shared the classes we took, things we made and quilts we liked from the show.

Susy took Elizabeth Hartman's class and came out with this adorable fox to use in a pillow for her daughter.

Our members had a bunch of great finishes to show:

Jody had two!

Julee's quilt made with her old jeans and recycled shirts.

This one Julee made with all recycled linen fabric.

Karen has a WIP:

January Meeting

January's meeting included a wonderful presentation by members Susy Drake and Erin Berg on their quilt design inspiration.

Erin's background as an architect informs her thinking about quilts.

Two of Connie's finishes.
